Creating a Low Carbon Footprint Way of Life with the MaTerre WorkshopNicolas GratiotNicolas Champollionn Learning outcomes: MaTerre is a learning by doing numerical tool to build adecarbonization scenario in the academic community. Learningoutcomes for participants are the self-evaluation of their owngreenhouse gas footprint, rising awareness of planet boundaries, empowerment by examples, rising awareness through interactivevisualisation, increasing creativity through serious gaming, inventingsolutions for decarbonization at various scales through collective roleplay.n Keywords:planetary boundaries, greenhouse gas (GHG), serious game, imaginingalternative futuresIntroduction A growing portion of academics and students realise the need to not only warnabout climate change, but also change their practices. A range of tools haveemerged to promote more sustainable activities, yet many academics andstudents struggle to go beyond simple awareness-raising to create concretetransition actions. Here, we propose a game-based transition support system,Ma Terre, which has been designed to build scenarios of greenhouse gas (GHG)emissions reductions in the academic community. After providing a commonscientific background about the context (global warming issue, its causes andconsequences) and setting up a challenge (50% reduction in carbon emissionsby 2030), participants from the student community immerse themselves infictional characters to simulate the behaviour of real classes at the university.Modestly, Ma Terre offers an innovative game-based transition supportsystem to build scenarios of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions in the1073.1 Creating a Low Carbon Footprint Way of Life with the MaTerre WorkshopCreating a Low Carbon Footprint Way of Life with the MaTerre Workshop
